Who can enrol on this course?

This course is open for those individuals: looking to change their career, complete beginners, those already working in the Electrical Industry with little or intermediate level of experience. Previous qualifications are not required to have access to this course, but a basic understanding of English And Math is important.

It is also aimed to be able to self-certify your own work.

How the course is structured?

The course includes theory, practical work in the Training Centre and Onsite Portfolio of two rewiring jobs or 5 different jobs (if re-wiring job isn’t completed). The candidates will be assessed on 8 exams during the course, first five exams cover the theory and the last 3 cover practical assessments.

The whole course runs for a minimum of 3 months.


The qualification covers Level 1 - 3 in:

  • Essential Electrics,
  • Inspection,
  • Designer – rewiring properties, fuse box changing,
  • Inspection and Testing of Electrical Circuit,
  • Fault Finding


Assessment 1- Health, Safety and Environmental Legislation, Practices and Procedures of Electrical Installations.

(Covering Q3001 & Q3002).

Assessment 2 – Planning, Preparation and Organisation of Electrical Installations (Covering Q3003 & Q3005).

Assessment 3 – Installation and Connection of Wiring Systems in Electrical Installations (Covering Q3007).

Assessment 4 – Inspection and Testing of Electrical Installations (Covering Q3008).

Assessment 5 – Diagnosing and Correction of Faults in Electrical Installations (Covering Q3006).

Q3004 has been distributed over all assessments.

Assessment 6 – Inspection & Testing and Fault Finding.

Assessment 7 – Design Assignment – (Distance Learning).

Assessment 8 – Onsite Portfolio (plus Onsite Assessment).


Phase 1 - TRAINING: Theoretical and practical learning of all electrical work, in the training centre. You will understand all the theory behind electrical work, and then put it into practice through tailored practicals.

Training covers exams 1-5, and sections 6,7,9.


Phase 2 - PORTFOLIO: Completing an on-site portfolio of 2 rewiring jobs or 5 different jobs (if rewiring isn't completed), where you will be working alongside an qualified electrician, putting all the skills you learnt into practice. This covers section 8.


On-site portfolio cost is £240.


Qualification Units:

-      Understand and Apply Health & Safety legislation, practices, and procedures in electrical installations. LCL-Q3001.

-      Understand and Apply Environmental Legislation, working practices and the principles of environmental technology systems associated with electrical installations. LCL-Q3002.

-      Understand and Apply the practices and procedures for overseeing and organising the work environment when installing electrical installations. LCL-Q3003.

-      Electrotechnical Occupational Competence – Approval of Electrical Installations. LCL-3004

-      Understanding and applying the principles, practices and procedures for the planning, preparation, and selection of wiring systems and electrotechnical equipment. LCL-3005.

-      Understand and apply the principles, practices and legislation for diagnosing and correcting electrical faults in electrical installations. LCL-Q3006.

-      Understand and apply the practices and procedures for the installation and connection of wiring systems and electrotechnical equipment. LCL-Q3007.

-      Understand and apply the principles, practices and legislation for the inspection, testing, commissioning, approving and certification of electrical installations. LCL-Q3008.


Cost of the course:

  • Full time:
  • 8 weeks (2/3 days per week, 9am-4pm)
  • Training cost - £2600 + £240 portfolio
  • Evenings:
  • 10-12 weeks (2/3 days per week, 6pm-9pm)
  • Training cost - £2800 + £240 portfolio
  • Weekends:
  • 12 weekends (Saturday and Sunday, 9am-2pm)
  • One weekend on, one weekend off, and alternating so on
  • Training cost - £3000 + £240 portfolio


Leading to:

After completing your Level 3 qualification, this will lead to the following qualifications, which you will then be able to complete:

  • Level 3 BS7671:2018 18th Edition - £550
  • Initial Verification and Testing - £550
  • Periodic Inspection and Testing - £650
  • Initial Verification and Periodic Inspection and Testing - £1200 (£650 + £550)
  • Level 3 Award in Electrotechnical Work in Dwellings Experienced Worker Qualification (QAN 610/6068/9)  - this qualification is for domestic electricians with minimum 3 years experience and enables candidates to register with the NICEIC CPS and apply towards an ECS Domestic Electrician Gold Card.
