LCL Awards Level 3 Certificate in Installing, Testing and Ensuring Compliance of Electrical Installations in Dwellings


The qualification is aimed to those individuals who wish to demonstrate their knowledge as a qualified supervisor for Competent Scheme in the UK in order to register and become member with NAPIT or NICEIC, once 2 years work experience is gained alongside the completion of this course. It covers the Topics mainly on BS7671 Requirements for Electrical Installations and IET Wiring Regulations in addition to other relevant regulations. It is also aimed to be able to self-certify your own work and other peoples Electrical Installations in Dwellings.

Level 3 Certificate in Installing, Testing and Ensuring Compliance of Electrical Installations in Dwellings

This is a 1 week course for electricians who are looking to gain a greater understanding and to be able to work on any electrical installations in domestic properties. You do not have to have any previous electrical qualifications to undertake this course but you should have a basic understanding of electrical components.

This course will teach you:

  • How to complete component exchange
  • All relevant building regulations
  • The legislation, regulations, standards and terminology of electrical safety
  • How to complete all electrical surveys and inspections
  • How to undertake safe isolation
  • How to identify unsafe electrical situations
  • Earthing and bonding
  • Electrical testing
  • Cable components and fitting
  • Installing and re-routing cables
  • Domestic lighting circuits (SELV)
  • Maintaining electrical installations
  • 3 Phase supplies

18th Edition

This course covers all electrical installations and wiring regulations according to the latest British Standards. This course lasts approximately 1 week and has an online exam to complete. You are not required to have any existing electrical qualifications before taking this course, however you will need an understanding and experience of electrical installations. This course will help you to gain a good working knowledge of BS 7671. This course is needed in order to be able to undertake any wiring work including installations, repairs, rewires and more.

Get To Electric Course

At DS Gas & Electric Training, we also offer a beginners electrical course that can help you to gain an understanding of all basic electrical theory, installation and practices. This is a 4 week course. It consists of 2 weeks in house training where we will help you to gain a strong understanding of the basics of all electrical safety and installation. After this you will complete a 1 week course on Domestic Electrical Installation (DEI 1 - Part P), followed by a 1 week course on 18th Edition.

Our Get To Electric Course is designed to give you a strong knowledge of the fundamentals of all electrical practices. By taking this course you will be able to further your electrical education. Once you have gained your DEI 1 and 18th Edition certificates you will be able to take study and take exams in further electrical qualifications, such as, initial verification and periodic inspection and testing. This course will help you to take your first steps into the electrical trade!


PEB 1 (Protective Equipotential Bonding)

This is only a 1 day course (half a day theory, half a day practical). It teaches you how to instal or extend protective electrical bonding to a gas or mains water pipework installation. This course will teach you how to:

  • Gain knowledge of all relevant legislation and standards
  • Gain understanding of electrical installations
  • Reposition, alter and extend any PEB
  • Understand and complete all safe isolation and working procedures
  • Make the correct material selection and make sure of safe use
  • Complete all testing

Safe Isolation

This course is designed to teach you how to safely isolate electrical circuits. It is a half day course. This course is designed to help you to learn how to safely isolate any electrical components before beginning any work on electrical installations or connected appliances. The course covers all Electricity at Work Regulations (HSR25).

When undertaking any electrical installation, it is vital that you can complete any electrical isolation in order to protect yourself or any other users or engineers while any work is taking place.

Initial Verification and Periodic Inspection and Testing

Undertaking this course helps you to learn all of the knowledge and practical skills that are required for you to carry out all inspection and testing on all electrical installations.

Furthermore, this qualification means that you can carry out any initial verification and periodic inspections and testing on all electrical installations. You will learn about all appropriate legislation, inspection and testing techniques, as well as being able to complete and issue certificates and reports.

In order to take this course, you will need to have completed your 18th Edition qualification.

Upon successful completion of your electrical courses you will receive certification stating that you have passed the relevant electrical course. All of our courses have a mandatory exam that you must pass in order to qualify and receive your certificate. These exams are both theoretical and practical in nature and will require you to have a strong knowledge of the electrical course that you have completed. In the event that you fail your exam on your first attempt, we offer the chance for you to complete a resit at no extra cost to yourself.
