If you are looking to become a professional electrician, then look no further! At DS Gas & Electric Training, we provide an expert electrician training program that helps you to learn and garner all the relevant skills and qualifications required to enter the electrical trade.


Our courses consist of a combination of both classroom studies and practical learning. This way you can understand the theory behind all electrical work before putting it into practice. We know that learning new skills requires you to study all aspects of the trade. This is why our workshops are tailored to help you to understand what you are doing and why.

Once you have completed the courses, you will sit the relevant exams and be assessed on your practical knowledge. Our courses are tailored to help you to gain all of the understanding and practical skills required to pass the exams.


The electrical courses that we offer are:


LEVEL 3 DIPLOMA IN ELECTRICAL INSTALLATIONS IN DWELLINGS


This course includes the following qualifications awarded by LCL Awards, which will enable you to begin working as a domestic Electrician. This course is for beginners or those with no previous electrical qualifications (candidates holding previous electrical qualifications can begin directly onto the Experienced Worker Qualification).


The course covers:

  • - Level 1 Essential Electrics,
  • - Level 2 Domestic Electric Installer,
  • - Level 3 Initial Verification Inspection and Testing,
  • - Level 3 Designer


You will achieve the following qualifications:

  • - Level 3 Certificate in Installing, Testing and Ensuring Compliance of Electrical Installations in Dwellings
  • - Level 3 Award in BS7671:2018 18th Edition
  • - Level 3 Award in the Initial Verification and Certification of Electrical Installations.


The whole course runs for a minimum of 4-6 months.


Phase 1 - TRAINING: Theoretical and practical learning of all electrical work, in the training centre. You will understand all the theory behind electrical work, and then put it into practice through tailored practicals.


• Full time -> 8 weeks (2/3 days per week, 9am-4pm)

• Evenings -> 12 weeks (2/3 days per week, 6pm-9pm)

• Weekends -> 12 weekends (Saturday and Sunday, 9am-4pm)


The training will cover:

  • - How to complete component exchange
  • - All relevant building regulations
  • - The legislation, regulations, standards and terminology of electrical safety
  • - How to complete all electrical surveys and inspections
  • - How to undertake safe isolation
  • - How to identify unsafe electrical situations
  • - Earthing and bonding
  • - Electrical testing
  • - Cable components and fitting
  • - Installing and re-routing cables
  • - Domestic lighting circuits (SELV)
  • - Maintaining electrical installations
  • - 3 Phase supplies


Phase 2 - PORTFOLIO: Completing an on-site portfolio of 3 jobs (full rewire, minor work and fault finding), where you will be working alongside an qualified electrician, putting all the skills you learnt into practice. If you require us to supply a qualified engineer for you to work with, this will have an additional engineer's cost of £600.


We also offer packages in which extra portfolio support is available if you would like. This extra support will help you in uploading evidence (photos and written) of the practical jobs you complete, with an optional cost of £350.


Phase 3: Back to centre for practical assessments (5 days). Through the course we will ensure you gain all the theoretical understanding and practical skills required to pass the exams.


The course will entitle you to work straight away in Domestic and then also further leading to Commercial and Industrial.

  • - Full time -> £2600 (training) + £1000 (practical exam) + (£600 optional for portfolio)
  • -Evenings -> £2800 (training) + £1000 (practical exam) + (£600 optional for portfolio)
  • - Weekends -> £3000 (training) + £1000 (practical exam) + (£600 optional for portfolio)


Next Steps:

Upon completion of your Level 3 qualification, you can complete your Initial Verification & Testing with us, free of cost.

You can choose to also complete your Periodic Inspection & Testing, optional cost of £650.

LCL Awards Level 3 Award in Electrotechnical Work in Dwellings Experienced Worker Qualification - COMING SOON JANUARY 2026

Once you have completed your Level 3 qualifications and began to gain some experience working, you can come back to do your Experienced Worker Qualification. This will involve completing your AM2 Assessment.

This Experienced Worker Qualification will have a separate cost, once you are ready to sit your AM2 Assessment.

Once your Experienced Worker Qualification is completed, you can go on to apply for your ECS Domestic Electrician Gold Card, and also register onto the CPS (Competent Person Scheme) with NICEIC or NAPIT.

If you already have previous experience/ qualifications in electrical work, you can begin directly onto the Experienced Worker Qualification. You can also complete your 18th Edition and Initial Verification & Testing at this time.


18th Edition - £450

This course covers all electrical installations and wiring regulations according to the latest British Standards. This course lasts approximately 1 week and has an online exam to complete. You are not required to have any existing electrical qualifications before taking this course, however you will need an understanding and experience of electrical installations. This course will help you to gain a good working knowledge of BS 7671. This course is needed in order to be able to undertake any wiring work including installations, repairs, rewires and more.


PEB 1 (Protective Equipotential Bonding) - £220

This is only a 1 day course (half a day theory, half a day practical). It teaches you how to instal or extend protective electrical bonding to a gas or mains water pipework installation. This course will teach you how to:

  • Gain knowledge of all relevant legislation and standards
  • Gain understanding of electrical installations
  • Reposition, alter and extend any PEB
  • Understand and complete all safe isolation and working procedures
  • Make the correct material selection and make sure of safe use
  • Complete all testing


Safe Isolation

This course is designed to teach you how to safely isolate electrical circuits. It is a half day course. This course is designed to help you to learn how to safely isolate any electrical components before beginning any work on electrical installations or connected appliances. The course covers all Electricity at Work Regulations (HSR25).

When undertaking any electrical installation, it is vital that you can complete any electrical isolation in order to protect yourself or any other users or engineers while any work is taking place.


Initial Verification and Periodic Inspection and Testing - £1200

Undertaking this course helps you to learn all of the knowledge and practical skills that are required for you to carry out all inspection and testing on all electrical installations.

Furthermore, this qualification means that you can carry out any initial verification and periodic inspections and testing on all electrical installations. You will learn about all appropriate legislation, inspection and testing techniques, as well as being able to complete and issue certificates and reports.

In order to take this course, you will need to have completed your 18th Edition qualification.

Upon successful completion of your electrical courses you will receive certification stating that you have passed the relevant electrical course. All of our courses have a mandatory exam that you must pass in order to qualify and receive your certificate. These exams are both theoretical and practical in nature and will require you to have a strong knowledge of the electrical course that you have completed. In the event that you fail your exam on your first attempt, we offer the chance for you to complete a resit at no extra cost to yourself.
